MovieTime streaming app
Find movies by actors, directors and music composers!
MovieTime is an app that incorporates the human element neglected in other streaming platforms. Enables searching by actors, directors and music composers, as well as listening to soundtracks right away. This was my first ever project to learn Figma.

TL;DR
This project is a result of my first encounter with Figma, learning UX/UI principles, prototyping and trying different plugins.
I didn't know much about UX research back then, so I used UX case studies available online, as well as my experiences with using different streaming platforms.
The human factor is neglected in many streaming applications - it's difficult to find movies by actors who star in them, or by movie directors, not to mention music composers. MovieTime highlights the people involved in cinematic productions, enabling users to browse content by their favorite actors, creators, and even read their bios.
Lord of the Rings is the best movie of all time.
The idea behind the project
People want to watch movies starring their favorite actors
People like to stay in their comfort zones and watch movies or series starring their favorite actors or directed by their favorite creators. They need to do a research outside of the streaming platform in order to find what they'd like to watch, then search for the title in the streaming app. This leads to wasting time and frustrations, especially when the title is not available in the platform.
MovieTime enables searching by actors and creators
In MovieTime users can search for actors and creators (including music composers) and find results featuring these people. There are dedicated pages that include a person's bio, and featured titles. Users can add creators to favorites, and MovieTime will provide recommendations with these people on homepage.
Other problems
People who love soundtracks have to do extensive research to find movies to watch with music they would love, which is time consuming and frustrating.
Users often start watching a movie or series that they end up not liking. They don't get to finish it and are left with a feeling of wasted time and disappointment.
Solutions
Music composers have their dedicated pages as well, and in every movie/series page there is a link to soundtrack album on Spotify. Users can easily find movies with music they would love!
Each title comes with a rating from IMDB - users can quickly judge if the movie/series is worth watching or not.
Background
We wanted to check if our idea for the app was a good one - wouldn’t we be repeating what’s already on the market? Do users really need and want to exchange plants? If so, how should this feature work? Do people even care about plants? Is there anything else our app can help with? We tried to answer these questions in the UX research phase.

Guidelines
Create actor's page
Highlight the human factor: enable users to stay within their comfort zone. Make it easier for users to find titles they are going to enjoy: starring their favorite actors, directed by their favorite creators, featuring music by their favorite composers.
Enable connection with Spotify
Make it super easy for the user to find the music they loved in the movie. One click instead of shazzaming the tune or typing it in Spotify (and maybe getting it wrong).
Provide user interface in dark mode
People might be spending a lot of time on this app, so to keep their eyes safe, I wanted to provide less tiring interface.
Provide 3-step registration process
Allow new users to start enjoying the app right away.
Add user ratings for each title
Avoid the feeling of disappointment, frustration and wasted time, that often comes when users start watching a title that they end up not enjoying at all. Ratings from IMDB allow making better decisions, based on known and trusted source.
When can you call the project successful?
What I've learnt
When creating user's account, user should be able to decide which music streaming platform they want to connect with. That way instead of Spotify links, they could get links to other platform they use.
